The 2011 La Guitarra California Festival was the finest in our 12-year history, as we presented a world-class music event to the attendees and to our community. The outstanding success of the Festival exceeded our expectations, and the congratulatory accolades continue to pour in!
We presented 20 world-renowned artists in 16 events! Featuring 11 concerts, four Master Classes, a free lecture, 32 guitar-maker exhibits, and the display of the Forderer Collection of Rare and Historic Guitars - this was one of the premier classical guitar events in the world!
La Guitarra continued its growth and recognition as we surpassed previous attendance records. The Opening Night concerts had an audience of 900, the thirty-two guitar makers in the Vendor Fair was a sellout, and the four Master Classes were attended by over 500 people!
Music education is a hallmark of the Festival. There were four Festival artist who conducted community outreach events, the interesting lecture was free of charge, and there were sixteen guitar students enrolled in the four Master Classes. We announced the newly formed "Gerry and Peggy Peterson La Guitarra Education Fund" which will insure the continuation and expansion of the Festival music education. At the next Festival we'll add a fifth Master Class and have twenty students! Please contact me or Cal Poly Arts and join us in this worthy cause.
The mission of La Guitarra is to increase the understanding and appreciation of classical guitar in all its forms. The 2011 Festival was an enormous success, and the reverberations are being felt in all corners of the music world!
